Come Play.co.za with us…

All the sport, music and unrivalled gees of the Cape Town 10s will be back in February 2023, and new title sponsor, Play.co.za, will be taking this world-class festival over the line.

With Netball, Rugby, Dodgeball, Hockey, and Soccer all in the lineup, the new title partner brings a virtual sporting arena into the team structure. A relatively new player, Play.co.za is home of live sports, esports, virtual and interactive fixed-odds gaming. Play.co.za brings more of the same expected energy to the Cape’s most popular lifestyle festival, as contenders, supporters and partygoers alike prepare to welcome the highly anticipated, full throttle return of the Play.co.za Cape Town 10s.

“Cape Town 10s is not just about the sporting action, we welcome some of the country’s biggest music acts and put on a show like no other, enjoyed by tens of thousands of fans from all over the country. Welcoming Play.co.za into the team is a great pleasure, with a brand ethos and sporting mindset that forms a most appropriate collaboration to enhance all that we have curated over the years. We’re preparing a 2023 festival that celebrates the return of sports and gatherings in a truly post-pandemic mindset, leaving nothing on the bench. If players and fans enjoyed the 10s in years gone by, they will not be disappointed by the action that the 2023 version will bring. If the packed sporting arenas and heaving music festivals across the globe in 2022 offer any indication, we are all ready to push it further, faster and with absolute commitment to fun in 2023!”” Andrea Gutsche. CT 10s Chief Entertainment Officer

Play.co.za Cape Town 10s is the brainchild of rugby legends Bob Skinstad and Robbie Fleck. Founded in 2008 as a rugby-only tournament, the festival has evolved into a multi-sport tournament where fans and players join together to have some fun, form incredible friendships and celebrate over a couple of cold ones. The 2023 Play.co.za Cape Town 10s will take place from 3 to 4 February.

“It is with great excitement that we exit the bench and join the Play.co.za Cape Town 10s in 2023. The event offering is a natural fit for our virtual sporting arena, where competition meets fun, and strategy meets entertainment. With online and virtual connection now a celebrated part of today’s world, it is key to ensure we do not neglect the opportunity to connect live and in person with our client base. The Play.co.za Cape Town 10s offers the ideal platform for this kind of connection”, says Bianca Uys, Play.co.za Marketing Director.

Play.co.za will be making their first 10s debut as headline sponsor at the Winelands 10s this November at the well-known Welbedacht Wine Estate in Wellington. Festival passes and team entries are available on the 10s website.

Two festivals, nine sports, eighteen live music acts, three hundred and sixty teams, four thousand players, and twenty-five thousand fans. It’s time to come play with us.

Cape Town 10s | 23rd – 25th September 2021

By | News

Dearest 10s Players,

We apologize for being so quiet the last couple of weeks, finalizing the logistics for 10s in this time has been a bit more complicated than what we have anticipated. To be honest the whole process around are we hosting are we not, what are the changes, what are the protocols, how many teams, the format of the matches, music lineup etc. has been very frustrating and very emotional at the same time. This is our baby and it is what we do. To be told for the last 15 x months that we are not allowed to play and earn a living is not easy. However, constant glimmers of hope has been the feedback and support we have had from you who have rolled with us as we had to make plans and changed formats and dates.

In the last month, we have tried to put a plan in place to have the best and safest Cape Town 10s. We have submitted three different plans to the City of Cape Town (all being COVID Friendly) but unfortunately, they have advised us to postpone the Cape Town 10s. We believe that this is the best option to keep all our players and spectators safe. If we decided to continue with the May date, we had to host a smaller event, meaning less teams and no spectators. This is not an option as we believe that Cape Town 10s should be experienced in all its glory.

As such we have been granted 23 – 25 September as an alternative date. A bit later in the year but a beautiful part of the year nonetheless as Cape Town heads into Spring and we all come out of hibernation ready to tackle summer.

Luckily, we do not just have bad news. We understand that being part of 10s is so much bigger than just coming to the events, over the years we have formed a community that brings friends and teammates together and that is something that we would like to

continue even if we can’t host a 10s event at the moment. With that being said we are hosting a few small events in different areas to make sure you keep “fit”. The 10s Winter Edition will see the following Events make their debut:

Events That We Will Be Hosting:

1. Burgers & Beer Pong in Durbanville

  1. 10 Team Entries available
  2. 2 x players in a team
  3. R400 per team
  4. Includes: Beer, 3 Games & 2 x Burgers
  5. Best Dressed and Best Ponger prizes

2. Pizza in Paarl

  1. 24 Team entries available
  2. 4 x players per team
  3. R250 per player
  4. (R1000 per team)
    1. Includes: a. 3 x Games
    2. b. T-Shirt
    3. c. Live Entertainment

3. Dodgeball, Dart & Duik Rugby on a Wine Farm

    1. Team Entries:
    2. 10 Netball Teams | R5 000 per team | 4 Games
    3. 10 Rugby Teams | R10 000 per team | 4 Games
    4. 10 Dodgeball Teams | R3 500 per team | 4 Games

      1. Live Entertainment
      2. 4 Games
      3.  Discounted Drinks

4. StellenQuiz in Stellenbosch

  1. 16 Team entries available
  2. 4 x players per team
  3. R350 per player (R1400 per team)
  4. Includes: a. Entry into Quiz Night
    1. Wine & Snacks
    2. Live Entertainment

We are opening Pre-Registration for all these events, so if you and your team want to join us please sign up below. We will send out the confirmed dates in the next few weeks.

We understand that changing the dates has an impact on your future plans, therefore we have put together different options:

  1. Save your entry for CT10s 2021 (Sep date)
  2. Roll entry over to 2022
  3. Re-Sell team entry to teams on the waiting list (We will assist with contact details)

It is important that you let us know what option your team will be taking before/on 1 May 2021, after that we will assume that you are keeping your entry for 2021 and that you roll over to September with us.

Please inform us of your decision by completing the form below.

Lastly, we would just like to thank you for your patience throughout the last couple of months. We understand that it is a frustrating time for everyone. We can’t wait to raise a glass with you and play sports the way only 10s can.

Quench Partners Up With Cape Town 10s

By | News

South Africa’s newest and hottest new delivery app, Quench, has teamed up with the Cape Town 10s and will be looking to join SA’s Premier Sports & Music Festival in delivering a new era of action and entertainment. The 10s Series sees the toughest of professionals to the most festive of amateurs take part in a variety of sports, providing loads of fun for participants and spectators.

The Quench Cape Town 10s, now in its 13th year, has gained the reputation of being one of the must-attend events on the city’s calendar and offers the fit and healthy folk of the Mother City no less than 10 x different sports to compete in.

“We are extremely excited and proud to be the headline sponsor of the Cape Town 10s” says Liam McCreedy, Quench’s Founder and Chief Operating Officer.

“I have always been a passionate supporter at the Cape Town 10s weekend. For the last three years, I dreamed about sponsoring a rugby or netball ball team in Quench’s bright purple colours. It thus goes without saying that myself and the entire Quench team are super excited about this unique partnership. The Cape Town 10s represents unity, camaraderie, and fun, which are all beliefs we as a company hold close to our hearts. The 10s has somewhat stretched from a local sporting weekend into a national lifestyle phenomenon that so many people markdown as an annual calendar event. The crowd in which the Cape Town 10s attracts is a perfect match for Quench, our mission will be to fly the Quench flag high and educate the people on how to QUENCH IT! Through fun and engaging activations and one or two secret surprises I truly believe the 2021 Cape Town 10s will be one for the history books. I am sure this is the start of what will become a long-term flourishing partnership” McCreedy adds.

“We are thrilled to have Quench on board as our new headline sponsor! We have always aligned ourselves with brands that share the same fundamental brand character, spirit and culture. We are certain that our loyal 10s fans are going to love the new member of our squad”, added Gerhardi Odendaal, Cape Town 10s Tournament Director.

Keep an eye on the Cape Town 10s website and social media for entries and other cool details. This event is overseen and managed by the Old School Group, “a really cool sports and lifestyle business” specializing in active sport and lifestyle experiences.

Can Jack Parow Catch a Rugby Ball?

By | News

Can Jack Parow Catch a Rugby Ball?

These, and other important questions will be answered at the highly anticipated 2020 Cape Town 10s tournament during the final weekend of January.

The Cape Town 10s is the City’s premium annual social sport and lifestyle event, and will host a multitude of sporting codes and popular music acts at the Green Point Common Fields in Cape Town from 31 January to 1 February.

The primary draw card of the 10s is most certainly the many famous and hometown heroes who descend on to Green Point to play on and off the sports field. The 10s rugby tournament, where professionals and amateurs put on a show stopper for the 25 000 fans who gather for a weekend of non-stop rugby action, is back. The Abantwana Bomghuba, World Cup Winning Captain Siya Kolisi’s home club in Port Elizabeth, is back to defend their title as the tournament culminates with a final show down on the Saturday afternoon.

With South African Netball making waves across the globe, it is not surprising that a staggering 112 teams are set to squeak takkie in the 2020 event.
The 6km SPAR Fun Run offers another option for participants, whilst golf is a brand new addition to the 10s with night golf at Westlake, a full round at Metropolitan and a virtual golf play off at the 10s venue on the Saturday. Hockey, 5-a-Side Soccer and Dodgeball round outan impressive sporting line up which should see 7000 + athletes compete on the weekend. The daytime dance floor will be heaving with fans ready to enjoy the musical line up of Jack Parow, Sunset Seatshop, Biggy and Majozi across two stages. A new third stage will feature a talented DJ line up throughout.

The 10s has firmly established itself as one of the premium sports and lifestyle festivals globally, and the impressive performances of our sports teams recently as well as the incredible welcoming the Boks had on their triumphant return from Japan just shows why this event concept keeps on growing and improving every year. We South Africans love sport, we enjoy a celebration, and what better place in the world than Cape Town to do
this?”, says Gerhardi Odendaal of the Old School Group, owners and organisers of the festival.

“Sport is king at the Cape Town 10s, music and cold beers are compulsory, whilst making new friends, building relationships and introducing more people to the power of sport is why we keep on doing this event,” adds Gerhardi.

A total of 80 social rugby teams from all over South Africa will compete in seven different divisions, including a Vets division, which will include the Thirsti Legends team, captained by the formidable trip of Schalk Burger, Schalk Brits and Schalk Bezuidenhout, a Social division, and a Premier 10s division, featuring cup winners from various 10s and 7s tournaments throughout South Africa.

Jack Parow really is heading on to the field as one of the BOS Sport celebrity team players, under the careful management of Siv Ngesi.

Cape Town 10s Welcomes SPAR Western Cape

By | Uncategorized

Cape Town 10s launches its 12th year of action-packed sport and live entertainment as 31 January and 1 February shapes up yet again for a massive weekend of hyped up experiences for fans, players and celebrities alike.

Players and fans can begin the count down and again look forward to an entertaining mix of rugby, hockey, netball, dodgeball and soccer, as well as the Run The 10s which is back for its second year. A fun new Golf format makes its way onto the scene as well!

With their shared passion for high-end energy and healthy lifestyle choices, Old School Group and SPAR Western Cape are thrilled to announce their partnership with SPAR Western Cape named as the official partner of the Cape Town 10s Netball and the SPAR Run The 10s event which takes runners through the iconic Green Point Stadium.

“With sporting fans and players returning year on year, Cape Town 10s ensures a world-class consumer experience for all Capetonians. The Cape Town 10s is an award-winning event and the biggest 10s of its kind in the world. The new partnership with SPAR Western Cape is really exciting and the perfect fit for the 10s. The SPAR ladies’ races and their long-standing relationship with netball in South Africa is a testament to their commitment to uplifting sport in South Africa and we are really happy to welcome them to the IAM10s movement.” says Gerhardi Odendaal, MD at 10s.

“SPAR is beyond excited to line up with the Cape Town 10s, particularly as our SPAR culture of caring extends beyond food and nutrition. Balance to life is key – it’s getting the right nutrition, enough rest, physical exercise and social engagement and that’s what Cape Town 10s offers up.  With Netball World Cup being hosted in SA in 2023, it’s a natural fit for us to be headlining the 10s Netball with over 112 netball teams taking part.  For these reasons we feel CT10s and SPAR are perfectly aligned, and we are excited to be a part of the event,” comments Elsabé van Zyl, Advertising Manager of SPAR Western Cape and Namibia.

Entries for Netball are now open and with 90 teams already registered and limited space for more the 2020 netball event at the 10s is going to be one massive experience, see the website details below to quickly book those last team places.

The positive response to the first successful Run The 10s that took place earlier this year was overwhelming and, as a result, Run The 10s is back and set to become a firm favourite with the active Cape Town sports community.  This 6km fun run on Saturday 1 February 2020 takes you through some iconic nooks and crooks and then finishes in the Cape Town 10s where the rest of the day can be spent taking in what is The Best Live Experience Event in South Africa. Keep an eye on the Cape Town 10s website for entries and other details.

No live Esports tournament at CT10s, but fans can still enjoy Esports vibe

By | Uncategorized

The organisers of the Cape Town 10s, the pre-eminent annual social sport and lifestyle event, are always looking for innovative ways to innovate and appeal to an even wider and bigger audience and in 2019 one of the ways they are doing this is through including an Esports element to the festival.

“The face of sport, especially among young people, is changing. By including Esports in the Tens Series, we are keeping up with the top global trends in sport,” says Gerhardi Odendaal, CEO of Old School Group, the organisers of the event.

“In 2019, the Tens, WiFi-IT and Mettlestate created a partnership to include Esports in this traditionally outdoor sports festival series and to introduce participants, fans and consumers to the growing gaming industry. However, we have had to delay our very exciting partnership due to some technical aspects with regards to the tournament.”

Although there will still be Esports Zone at the Cape Town 10s, with big screens live streaming the action, two MCs, an entertainment area and an Esports activation, the qualifying teams will now compete for their share of the prize in an online tournament in the Mettlestate studio in Johannesburg as apposed to the live arena at the event. The R100 000 prize pool (courtesy of WIFI-IT Events) is still up for grabs for our four qualifying teams – it’s just the format in which they’ll play that’ll change.

“We know that nothing beats the experience and vibe of a LAN event, but, given the circumstances, this was the best outcome we could reach with all parties involved. We apologise to those fans who were looking forward to seeing the gamers live, and hope that they will still visit the Esports Zone to experience what this growing craze is all about,” added Odendaal.

If you’ve already purchased tickets to attend the Cape Town 10s, you’re still in for a treat because there’s loads to check out and enjoy, including epic live sports, 18 music acts and some of SA’s biggest sports and entertainment stars.

Join up to 4,000 sportsmen and women participating in eight different sport codes and an expected 25,000 fans at the Hamilton Rugby Club in Cape Town from 1 to 2 February and experience the fun, games and gees.

Rugby Royalty Converge on Cape Town 10s

By | Uncategorized

Rugby royalty will converge on Cape Town during the first weekend of February for the 11th edition of the popular annual Cape Town 10s tournament.

Rugby enthusiasts should ensure that they do not miss the rugby highlight of the year when they will have the opportunity to watch and mingle with some of the legends of the game, including current and former Springboks Siya Kolisi, Eben Etzebeth, Bryan Habana, Bob Skinstad, Bakkies Botha, Robbie Fleck, Bolla Conradie and Jongi Nokwe.

The Cape Town 10s is the preeminent annual social sport and lifestyle event and will host nine different sport codes and 18 music acts at the Hamilton Rugby Club in Cape Town from 1 to 2 February.

As a winner of the 2016 Discovery Sport Industry Award for Best Live Experience Event, the organisers are always looking for innovative ways to include even more participants, and this year they are doing it again by hosting an eSports tournament as well as the first ever “Run The 10s” event – a 5.5 km run through the Cape Town Stadium and along the well-known Sea Point Promenade.

The exciting 10s rugby tournament remains one of the event’s biggest draw cards and professional as well as amateur rugby players will give fans much to cheer about over two days of blistering rugby action, including seven finals on the Saturday.

Celebrity coach and former Springbok Bryan Habana’s Oakheart VIP Invitational Team will feature a star-studded cast of former Springboks and provincial players such as Jongi Nokwe, Bolla Conradie, Henno Mentz, Andries Strauss and Hanyani Shimange, to name but a few.

Also in action will be the Espolon Etzebeth BARbarians, coached by Springbok lock Eben Etzebeth, the Ubumbo Legends, coached by Stormers hooker Scara Ntubeni, and the Abantwana Bomgquba, coached by current Springbok captain Siya Kolisi.

Another team to watch out for is the Old School Celebs Rugby Team, coached and captained by local comedian and actor Siv Ngesi and featuring various actors, musicians, and other celebrity players like former PSL football player Ryan Botha, rapper Jack Parow, Espresso host Graeme Richards, and comedian Rob van Vuuren.

“We are pleased to host the cream of South African rugby – past, present and future – as well as the rugby-loving public at the Cape Town 10s this year,” says Gerhardi Odendaal of the Old School Group, organiser of the festival.

“Fans only need to look at the list of attendees to know that they will be mingling with rugby royalty at this year’s event. Off-the-field fun includes the opportunity to get your favourite rugby memorabilia signed by former and current professional rugby players from the Springboks, England, Saracens, Stormers, Lions, Sharks and Bulls. So, bring that rugby ball, sports cap or t-shirt and get your favourite players’ signatures!”

“We are also pleased to welcome more than 400 teams at this year’s event, including regular competitors like the Steamers, winners of the prize for Best Dressed team nine years in a row, and the Westcoast Crew, who has featured in the final multiple times. Will this year be their year to lift the trophy?”

The Friday Superhero Dress-up at the Cape Town 10s is in a class of its own and there is nothing stopping the spectators from dressing up as their favourite characters too. Prizes are huge and expectations are high. Catch the elusive Siv Ngesi in his Super Man cloak – he is everywhere …

Social rugby teams from all over South Africa will compete in seven different divisions, including a Vets division, expected to attract former international and provincial players, a Social division, and a Premier 10s division, featuring cup winners from various 10s and 7s tournaments throughout South Africa.

To add spice to the event, former Springbok lock Bakkies Botha will launch his new boerewors brand over the weekend.

Be the first to Run The 10s

By | News

(South Africa, January 2019)

Like all children, this baby just continues to grow. Backed by a highly competent and enthusiastic team, the Cape Town 10s sports and lifestyle festival has added an exciting new 5.5km run into the successful mix of rugby, netball, hockey, soccer, volleyball, dodgeball as well as esports!

Yes, yes, we all know what your next question is going to be… Why 5.5kms and not 10kms?

Well, the truth of it is that since its inception, the goal of the 10s Series has been to make the event as inclusive as possible. We want to offer people from all walks of life, level of skill and fitness an opportunity to take part in both the sport and fun aspect of the 10s. While we may introduce a 10km run in the future, just like all of you seeking to shake off the festive season slump and get fit – it’s a process and we are building up to get there.

But for now, there is a lot to look forward to in this 5.5km trot in arguably one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

For starters it is the first Run The 10s event. When you enter and take part in the future Run The 10s you will forever have bragging rights that claim you participated in the inaugural event. But what’s more, is it is the first running event that takes runners in and around the Green Point Stadium.

Opened in 2009 and built for the 2010 Soccer World Cup, running through the stadium that has hosted famous celebrities like Justin Bieber, U2 and Eminem to name a few, is reason enough to stop reading and enter!

…then carry on reading again because what you get for the R200 entry is mind-blowing:

  • Saturday entry into the Cape Town 10s (valued at R280!)
  • Finish line refreshment
  • A goodie bag comprising a pair of Versus socks, Run The 10s Cap and Ramble drawstring bag
  • Live entertainment (up to 25 live bands)
  • The opportunity to mingle with celebrities

It really is a steal.

Now, let’s talk route. The run starts with a lap around the Cape Town Athletics Stadium, exits the stadium and goes onto the main attraction – the Green Point Stadium. After a lap in the Green Point Stadium runners will exit and continue passed the festival grounds (where they will later enjoy the amazing live acts) and head onto the promenade which boasts picturesque views of the mountain, stadium and Atlantic Ocean (keep an eye out for a number of public art installations en-route).

Fun fact about the promenade: Building for the 11km-long promenade began in 1920 and continued for 10 years until completion… 10 years to build and the first Run The 10s on our 10-year anniversary… it seems fitting!

The section along the prom continues until the lighthouse – the oldest lighthouse on the South African coast – and then runners will turn off towards the Green Point Urban Park. This park was declared a heritage site in 2016 and offers a view of the iconic Table Mountain declared one of the 7 Wonders of Nature in 2012! Finally, runners will end up at the festival grounds where finishers are given refreshments and the first 500 entrants receive their goodies bags.

So yes, it may only be 5.5kms, but it’s 5.5kms of rich history, jaw-dropping views, awesome vibe and great value for money!

Don’t miss out!  Enter here.

The Cape Town 10s team unveils the faces behind the 10s

(South Africa, December 2018)

The Cape Town 10s is more than just an annual social sports and lifestyle festival. In terms of success, the growth speaks for itself. Emerging as a relatively small rugby tournament, evolving into a multi-sport event featuring top local music acts, achieving winner of the 2016 Discovery Sport Industry Awards for “Best Live Experience” Event in South Africa and now after 10 years, continuing in this vain.

Yes, these are impressive accolades, but 10s is also about the everyday faces behind the brand.

The series grew from a passion for rugby, team camaraderie and a love for leading an active lifestyle well-balanced with fun and good times.

The team behind the 10s holds these values at the center. Old School Group (OSG) is 10s and they are passionate about what 10s has become and what it means to everyone who forms a part of the 10s family.

When it comes to OSG, this small, close-knit unit of young, enthusiastic and active individuals are 10s (#WeAre10s) but 10s has extended itself to all of YOU: the fans, the teams, the players, the friends, families, supporters…

“10s is all about offering people from all walks of life, level of skill and fitness the opportunity to compete in sport, make friends, relax and have fun in an environment where the experience of the contestant is the number one priority. We want to introduce the team behind the 10s in order to create a more personal connection with the 10s brand and allow people to intimately engage with the 10s. The aim of the campaign is to encourage our fans to talk about their personal experiences, share stories and explain why they are 10s,” says Gerhardi Odendaal, CEO of Old School Group.

In order to share what #Iam10s means to you, the team appeals to members of the 10s family to share:

Send the 10s team a short video OR image + caption (A personal story / memory from the 10s; Your favourite aspect of the 10s; A funny moment / emotional moment / celebratory moment; Etc.)

Share videos on your personal social feeds
